AI Server v2 is here: one shared, private AI runtime for your whole PC

A ground-up rebuild of the shared engine behind AI Suite: host, download and run the AI models every app uses — one download, one library, one set of keys. Free serves this machine; Pro serves your whole network, with governance.

Today we're releasing AI Server v2 — a ground-up rebuild of the shared engine behind AI Suite, replacing the older Windows-only listing. It turns a PC into one shared, private AI runtime: host, download and run the AI models every AI Suite app uses — one model download, one library, one set of API keys, used everywhere.

What it does

Every AI Suite app — Chatbot, Translate, Notepad, PDF Reader and the rest — offloads its AI to AI Server instead of bundling its own engine. So a model is downloaded once and served to all of them, with nothing leaving your device. Run it just for the session, or install it as a background Windows service that keeps serving after you sign out or reboot.

You manage everything from one place: a Models page to download and organize models — and move your whole model library to another drive without re-downloading — a Providers page to connect cloud AI with your own keys, and live Connections, Active requests, Usage and Logs pages so you can see exactly what's happening. Under the hood it hosts several engines behind one API, and it speaks both the OpenAI (/v1/*) and Ollama (/api/*) APIs, so tools like Open WebUI or a simple curl script work too.

New in v2

  • One shared runtime. One model download and one library, served to every AI Suite app — no duplicate multi-gigabyte downloads.
  • Run for the session, or as a service. Keep it serving in the background across reboots (Pro), or just while you work.
  • Manage it all in one console. Models, cloud providers, and live connections, active requests, usage and logs.
  • Move your library, don't re-download. Relocate the whole model store to another drive safely, with verification before the switch.
  • Private by design. API keys stored only as secure hashes, content-free and consent-gated usage reporting, and your data stays on your device.
  • 16 languages and a headless CLI for power users and automation, and a smooth in-place upgrade that carries your settings over.

Free, Pro, and governed

AI Server comes in three editions, and the free one is genuinely useful on its own. Free — Local AI Server runs on this PC (loopback) and gives every AI Suite app unlimited local AI, free, forever. Pro Personal — Network AI Server serves your local models to other devices on your network, and runs AI Server as a background service. Pro Commercial — Governed AI Server adds a full governance suite — API keys, rate limits, usage quotas and budgets, content filtering, signed audit export, model-lifecycle policy and regional compliance — the multi-host AI Gateway, and organization enrollment for centralized management from AI Admin Console.

The daemon is the gate of record for network serving, so the boundary is enforced by the server itself, not just the UI. Everything the free app does stays free; Pro is about serving beyond this machine and governing that traffic.

Why a local AI server matters

The AI work people most want to keep private is often exactly what can't go to the cloud — internal documents, customer data, half-formed ideas. A local AI server brings the models to your data instead: prompts and responses never leave your infrastructure, keys are stored only as hashes, and telemetry is content-free by contract. That makes AI Server a fit for privacy-conscious households, regulated industries where prompts and replies can't leave managed hardware, and offline or air-gapped setups. It's the same on-premises, privacy-first principle behind everything Software Tailor builds [1].

It's also the foundation for the rest of AI Suite: thin apps that carry no engine of their own can still run full local AI by offloading to a shared server — one download that powers your whole desktop. Explore the suite in AI Suite.

Get it

AI Server v2 is available now on the Microsoft Store for Windows as a free download, with Pro available when you want to serve your network and add governance [2]. A headless CLI ships alongside it, and there are quick-start, API-client, Kubernetes, licensing and operations guides in the documentation [3]. Read the full feature tour on the product page.
