AI Rewrite v2 is here: polish any text privately, on your own device

Today we're releasing AI Rewrite v2 — a ground-up rebuild of our text-rewriting app on the cross-platform AI Suite v2 stack. The idea is the same one we shipped in v1: paste a paragraph and have it rewritten the way you want. Everything around that idea is new.

What it does

Paste or import any text, choose what to do with it, and AI Rewrite rewrites it on your own device — streaming the result back as it goes. You pick an action (improve, simplify, shorten, expand, fix grammar, paraphrase, make it professional or casual, persuasive, or summarise), a tone (eleven of them, or keep the original), and a length (keep, shorter, or longer). With a local model, the whole rewrite runs on your machine; turn the network off and it keeps working.

It's built to fit how you actually write: copy the result, save it to a file, or send it back as the new input to keep refining — all driven from the keyboard with shortcuts you can remap. The result streams in live, so you're never staring at a blank screen.

New in v2

• Rewrite by action, tone and length. Ten actions, eleven tones and three lengths combine into exactly the change you want — not a single generic "rewrite" button.
• Match my style. Paste a sample of your own writing and AI Rewrite mirrors your voice, so the result sounds like you, not like a machine. Save your own custom tones for the phrasings you reach for again and again.
• Bring in whole documents. Load text straight from Word, PDF, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, Markdown and plain-text files — image-only pages are read with built-in OCR. Long passages are split and rewritten in pieces automatically, so length is never a barrier.
• History you control. Every rewrite is saved locally and encrypted, with one-click restore of the original text, action, tone and length. Set how long history is kept — a number of days, or forever — and delete any entry whenever you like.
• Your choice of models. Start free with a capable on-device model, selected and downloaded automatically the first time you rewrite (a lighter model is chosen on its own for lower-memory machines). Pro unlocks premium local models and optional cloud providers for the toughest jobs.
• In 16 languages, and scriptable. The whole interface follows your operating system's language, and AI Rewrite replies in the same language as your text. A headless command-line tool rewrites from the terminal and doubles as an MCP server so AI agents can call it on your own infrastructure.

Every feature is free

Here's the part we're proudest of: no feature is locked behind Pro. All ten actions, eleven tones and three lengths, match-my-style, custom tones, document import, encrypted history and the command-line tool are in the free app, with a capable on-device model and no time limit or nag screens. Pro is simply about choice of model — premium local models and optional cloud providers when you want extra power. You never lose a capability by staying on the free tier.

Why on-device matters

Emails, contracts, reports, internal memos — the text people most want to polish is often the text that can't go to the cloud. AI Rewrite brings the AI to your words instead: nothing leaves the device with a local model, your history is encrypted at rest, and there are no per-word or per-token usage fees. It's the same on-premises, privacy-first principle behind everything Software Tailor builds ^[1].
