Today we're releasing Local AI Chatbot v2 — the full private AI chat, rebuilt on the cross-platform AI Suite v2 stack and delivered as an in-place upgrade to the existing Windows app. This is the complete experience: multi-session chat organized in folders, a prompt library, conversation branching, document chat and durable memory — all running on your own device. It's free to download on Windows from the Microsoft Store.
What it does
Type a message and a local model streams the reply back on your own device as it writes it — no round-trip to someone else's server. Your messages aren't uploaded with a local model, and once a model is downloaded the whole app works offline. Every conversation is saved encrypted at rest, and you never need an account to use the free tier. A capable on-device model is selected and downloaded automatically on first launch — no setup, no sign-up — and a lighter model is chosen on its own for lower-memory machines.
The full experience
Where a slim chat app stops at the conversation, Local AI Chatbot keeps going. Keep every chat in a folder tree that passes a system prompt, model or tool settings down to the chats inside it, and override any single chat when you need to. Branch any conversation — edit a message or regenerate a reply to fork a new path, and step between versions with a simple 1/N switcher. Build a prompt library of reusable, categorized prompts with fill-in-the-blank placeholders and version history, and switch personas to change the assistant's voice in one click. Attach documents and get answers grounded in them, with the sources shown right under the reply; attach images and it reads them too. Turn on conversation memory and the chat recalls earlier turns and distilled facts — and shows you exactly which memories it used. Find a phrase within a chat, or search across all your chats and jump straight to a match.
This is the counterpart to our deliberately-slim siblings. Local AI Assistant and AI Reasoning keep the chat clean with no tools, folders or documents in the way; Local AI Chatbot is the full workspace, for when you want the whole toolkit.
Private, and on your device
Everything — sessions, messages, prompts, attached documents and memory — is saved encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM, keyed to your device) and survives an uninstall. Nothing leaves the device with a local model: no cloud account, no per-message bill. Telemetry is opt-in and content-free — never your prompts, your messages or your file names. That makes it a fit for privacy-conscious power users, regulated teams in legal, healthcare, finance and the public sector where prompts and replies can't leave managed hardware, and offline or air-gapped setups. It's the same on-premises, privacy-first principle behind everything Software Tailor builds [1].
Free, with Pro for more power
Here's the important part: the whole productivity toolkit above is Free. Multiple sessions, folders with inheritance, branching, the prompt library and personas, document chat, memory, images, find and search, and backup, restore and export all run in the free app on the bundled on-device model, with no time limit and no nag screens.
Pro adds two things. First, larger local models and cloud providers, when you want extra power. Second, two power features: tool use lets capable models take actions — a clock and calculator, live web search and page-fetch, and your own MCP tool servers — with every tool call shown in full; and Agent mode runs goal-driven, multi-agent workflows, where you pick a goal, fill in the blanks, and watch a planner split the work across parallel agents, then merge and recommend, with the whole workflow graph, per-step model, tokens and timing laid out for you. Pro is a low monthly or annual subscription, available as Personal or Commercial.
Your history comes with you
Coming from the previous Local AI Chatbot? You upgrade in place. On first launch the app imports your conversations, your prompt library and your document memory non-destructively — your original data is never modified, so your history comes with you and nothing is lost. It runs once, quietly, in the background.
Where it runs
Local AI Chatbot v2 is available now on the Microsoft Store for Windows as a free download, with Pro available when you want larger models, cloud providers, tools or Agent mode [2]. A headless aichatbot command-line tool ships alongside it for power users and automation.
